Classes

Beginners Class

Beginner’s class is about the basics. Here we learn to stand, punch, kick, and block. We
also learn our first katas. Kata is a set of prearrange movements that teaches us how to
position our bodies to attack or defend against one or more opponents. We also start to
Kumite, which is the same as sparring practice. Kumite helps us to toughen the body,
build our endurance, and enhance our reflexes. Training in this manner works on our
balance and flexibility, both are essential to master Wado Ryu Karate Do. One will spend
3 months in this class before moving to the intermediate class.

Intermediate Class

Intermediate class is about getting it all together. In this class we take the basics and start
smoothing then out to become more fluid in our movements. Kata becomes more
complex, as we learn to involve the whole body in our punches, kicks, and blocks.
Kumite is much faster now, because you are learning how body position is allowing you
to react more efficiently to an attack. Both of these kata and kumite are working together
to forge a new tougher, faster, and focused you. Be prepared you will be in this class for
a year and a half before moving to the advance class.

Advanced Class

Advance class is where it all comes together in a unified whole. Your body has been
toughen over the last year and a half, the joints, tendons, muscles are now ready to
withstand the rigors of advance training. The training in this class focuses on uniting the
spirit, mind and body to the point they are working together as one. The kata is more
focused on breath control and directing the energy or ki to one tiny point of movement.
Kata and kumite now include joint locks, grappling, and throws. All of this is too be able
to inflict the most damage with the less amount of effort. The basics are being constantly
polished and refined to squeeze out the most effective way to deal with an attack. One
spends a lifetime in this class.
